Best Time to Visit Kashmir:

People love going to Kashmir all year long because each season has its own special beauty and things to do. Kashmir has something spectacular for every kind of traveller, whether you're skimming across Dal Lake on a shikara, drinking hot kahwa in a flower-filled garden, skiing down icy slopes, or hiking through alpine meadows. Here is how the seasons change in Kashmir to help you plan your trip:

Peak Season (March to June):

Kashmir is at its best from March to June, when the weather is nice, the gardens are in blossom, and the valleys are green. Now is the best time to see Srinagar's famous Mughal Gardens, visit the apple orchards in Pahalgam, or take a pony ride through Sonamarg's beautiful green meadows. The weather is normally between 15°C to 30°C, which is great for sightseeing and light adventure activities.

In April, spring brings the legendary Tulip Festival, when Asia's biggest tulip garden bursts into colour. This event draws photographers and flower enthusiasts from all over the world. In the early summer, it's a fantastic time to go boating on Dal and Nigeen Lakes or go to glacier vistas without having to deal with bad weather. This is the busiest time of year for travel, so we suggest making your travel and lodging plans ahead of time to avoid any last-minute problems.

Moderate Season (July to September):

The monsoon comes to some parts of India from July to September, but Kashmir only gets light to moderate rain, which makes it a nice place to be. This is the shoulder season, which is great for travellers who want to avoid crowds and enjoy peace and quiet. The valleys are still green and the rivers are still full, making the landscape beautiful. Now is an excellent time to check out some less travelled paths, see saffron fields in Pampore, or go on heritage excursions in old Srinagar.

While some adventure sports may be halted due to rain, it's an ideal time for budget travelers to experience the breathtaking beauty of Kashmir at more affordable prices. The rain-soaked mountains and foggy mornings make the whole valley feel like a dream, which is great for nature photography and travel that makes you think.

Low Season (October to February):

Kashmir becomes a winter wonderland from October to February. As snow starts to cover Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and areas of Pahalgam, it becomes a heaven for people who love snow and newlyweds. The temperatures are between -2°C and 15°C, and the clear air and snowy landscapes make for postcard-perfect vistas.

This is the finest time to go skiing in Gulmarg, ride a gondola up to the snowy Apharwat Peak, or stay in a nice, wooden houseboat with a traditional kangri (clay firepot) to keep you warm. In the winter, Kashmir is also a more romantic and serene place, away from the masses. If you go in December or January, you might even see snow in Srinagar proper, which is a sight you won't forget.

So, When Should You Go?

Plan your trip between March and June if you like colourful gardens, fresh flowers, and nice weather. The months of July to September, when the monsoon is light, are a great time to get away from the throng and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature. And if you want to ski, see snow, and snuggle up by the fire, the best season for you is from October to February.

Kashmir is a place that is beautiful all year round. No matter when you go, you'll see beautiful scenery, meet friendly people, and have experiences you'll never forget. Just choose your mood, and Journey Routers will handle the rest.

How to Reach Kashmir

While you are planning your Kashmir tour package, no matter where you're coming from, it's easy and quick to travel to Kashmir. Kashmir greets you with open arms, whether you like the speed of flying, the comfort of a road trip, the attractiveness of rail travel, or the relaxation of a picturesque ride once you are there.

By Air:

The best and fastest way to get to Kashmir is by plane. The primary airport in the valley is Sheikh ul-Alam Airport in Srinagar. It has good connections to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jammu, Chandigarh, and Leh.

IndiGo and Air India fly directly from Delhi, Jammu, and Mumbai. People travelling from other regions of India or other countries can easily get to Delhi or Mumbai and then take a connecting aircraft. During busy tourist times, there may also be extra charter flights. The airport is only 12 kilometres from the core of the city, and taxis are easy to find for getting around.

By Road:

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44) is the main road that goes to Kashmir. It has beautiful vistas of mountains and valleys. It takes about 8 to 10 hours to get from Jammu to Srinagar, depending on traffic and the weather. The distance is about 270 miles.

JKSRTC buses, private luxury coaches, and taxis often run on this route. Driving yourself is a fun way to see the area, but you need to be a skilled driver because the roads are mountainous, especially around the Jawahar Tunnel and Banihal Pass.

By Train:

There is no train station in Srinagar, but the closest big one is in Jammu Tawi, which is about 300 miles away. There are good connections between Jammu Tawi and places like Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai. People can go to Kashmir from Jammu by road or by hiring a cab.

By Cruise:

There is no cruise service to Kashmir right now because it is surrounded by mountains and does not have access to the sea. But once travellers get to Kashmir, they can stay in houseboats and take shikara rides on the Dal and Nigeen Lakes. These are unique ways to travel on water in the area.

To sum up, flying is still the best way to go to Kashmir, thanks to connections by road and train. This Himalayan beauty is worth the trip, whether you want to have an adventure or just relax.

Important Tips You Need to Know Before Visiting Kashmir:

People often call Kashmir "Paradise on Earth" because of its beautiful scenery, peaceful lakes, and rich cultural history. But it's crucial to be well-prepared when you plan your Kashmir trip to make sure you have a safe and fun time.

  1. Check the Weather and Pack Accordingly: The weather in Kashmir can change quickly, especially in the highlands. The winters might be very cold and snowy, but the summers are nice. Even in the heat, bring warm clothes and make sure you have sturdy shoes.
  1. Carry a valid ID: Some places are very safe because there have been protests there. Always have a government-issued ID with you, because there may be checks along the road.
  1. Keep Up with What's Going On in the Area: Before and throughout your trip, check travel advisories and remain up to date on the political situation. Stay away from big protests and crowds, and listen to what the locals say.
  1. Be Respectful of Local Customs and Culture: Kashmiris are friendly and welcoming, but they are very traditional. Be mindful of local customs and dress modestly, especially in places of worship.
  1. Connectivity and Cash: In certain rural regions, the internet and cell networks may not work very well. It's a good idea to have extra cash on hand because digital payments cannot be accepted in rural areas.
  1. Permits for Some Areas: You don't need a special permit to go to sites like Gulmarg or Sonamarg. But places close to the borders, like Gurez or some portions of Leh-Ladakh, might need approval.
  1. Travel Insurance: Because of the weather and geography, it's a good idea to have travel insurance that covers delays, cancellations, and health issues.
